mesa-amber is the legacy Mesa package which includes the classic (non-Gallium3D) drivers for older hardware:.

zink : a Gallium driver used to run OpenGL on top of Vulkan.iris : for Intel's Gen 8 hardware and later.crocus : for Intel's Gen 4 to Gen 7 hardware.virtio_gpu : a virtual GPU driver for virtio, can be used with QEMU based VMMs (like KVM or Xen).nouveau : Nouveau is the open-source driver for NVIDIA GPUs.radeonsi : for AMD's Southern Island GPUs and later.r600 : for AMD's Radeon R600 GPUs up to Northern Islands.mesa is the up to date Mesa package which includes most of the modern drivers for newer hardware:.There are two Mesa packages each with a distinct set of drivers: Mesa also provides software rasterizers, such as llvmpipe. It has a collection of open-source drivers for Intel graphics, ATI, AMD and NVIDIA GPUs. Mesa is an open-source OpenGL implementation, continually updated to support the latest OpenGL specification. To find the code-name of an NVIDIA GPU, check the code-name list from the Nouveau project. To find the family of an AMD (and ATI) GPU, check the decoder ring from the X.Org project.Intel's Gen N hardware does not refer to the generation of the CPU, it refers to the generation of the GPU, which is different from the generation of the CPU.And with DX12, it is very likely that users can keep using their DX11 graphics card (depending on what it is), all what they need is a new OS.

Exception to that would be Vista because I think with a service pack update DX10 was upgraded to DX11.

With DX, a new OS (and graphic card if it is unable to support the newest DX) every few years. But no need for a new OS (exception Vista DX10 to DX11) So to me it seems, staying up to date with OpenGL will cost you a new graphic card every year, if the current graphic card can't support the new spec (unless the company that made the card is choosing to not update the driver to support the new spec and are trying to force people to buy the newest one). If it turns out that it can't, then keeping up to date with OpenGL will be very costly for users compared to DX12, which there is only a release every few years with a new OS.

Just looked it up and I see the performance issues of DX11, but I don't know if DX12 is really a dead end when it hasn't even been released yet and how people will react to Windows 10 (so far I have heard that people (on this forum) like 10).Īs for OpenGL keeping that up to date seems like a better decision for SCS since they are working with Windows, Linux, and Mac, but there is a new OpenGL Specification every year, and I don't know if a graphic card that is said to work with 4.3 will work with 4.5. Then again, maybe SCS will not have to update to DX12 (even though I would like to see what DX12 can do), if I understood correctly what DX11.3 is supposed to be able to do.

But would this help increase framerate within cities or is it something related to just the game engine?Īnd finally, with OpenGL, can a graphic card like the R9 290 that is said to support OpenGL 4.3 (then I read about something elsewhere about it supporting 4.4 as well, not in below link), could its driver be updated to support OpenGL 4.5? I personally would be willing to pay to have such support added to the game. Or would we have to wait till future games? And how hard will it be to add fallback support? Is it possible for SCS to add DX 12 or OpenGL 4.5 to ETS2 or ATS? Since their support has been so superb. bility.pdf (page 3)īut I am not sure about DX 12, one user on a different forum was pretty angry about a developer using DX11 when the user had DX10: (strong language advisory)īut on another site, a user mentions fallback support. It seems that OpenGL will maintain reverse compatiablity so there may not be a problem there for older graphic cards (I don't really know). Since these API's are now focusing on efficiency, if SCS were ever to update to only DX 12 or OpenGL 4.5 (if they can) would the current game or future games be reverse compatible with older graphics cards that don't support the new API?
